Fertility & Preconception Care
What is it?
Fertility is the ability to conceive or become pregnant. Some couples
fall pregnant with ease while others do not. Medically, a couple is
deemed infertile if after a year of trying the woman has not become
pregnant. It is estimated that up to 1 couple in every 6 may experience
difficulty conceiving. That’s around 15% - 20% of all couples.
Conception
requires the right conditions. Preconception care is aimed at achieving
those conditions to give you a better chance at conceiving and
potentially improving the health of your child.
Moontides Approach to Fertility & Preconception Care
When you have a consultation with a Moontides Naturopathic Case
Manager (NCM) about your fertility or preconception care you will be
asked a series of questions about your diet, lifestyle, menstrual cycle,
pregnancy history, general health condition, any fertility treatments
you are undergoing and medications you are taking.
The
information you provide will be taken into account by your NCM and a
plan devised that incorporates ways to improve your chances of a healthy
conception.
We understand that the emotional stresses associated
with infertility can be devastating and can place great pressure on
personal relationships. The way each partner approaches preconception
care can also be different and cause friction. Your NCM can help you to identify emotional stressors and give you
practical advice on how to deal with these and minimise their impact on
your health. Your NCM may also discuss the
benefits that counselling may have to offer you and provide you with a
referral to a qualified counsellor.
Support services
If your NCM feels you would benefit from additional support or health
services they may discuss the benefits of counselling or conventional
medicine in providing you with symptom relief and/or preventative
measures for dealing with your fertility.
In this instance,
your NCM will provide you with a referral for one of these services.
Moontides has a carefully chosen group of referral practitioners
providing these services at our premises. Where possible your NCM will
provide the referral practitioner with specific directives so your
treatments will be focused on exactly what you need.
The referral
practitioners will report back to your NCM for consideration in your
treatment strategy so there is always a cohesive approach to your care.
