Menstruation
What is it?
Each month during her fertile years a woman’s body prepares for the possibility of pregnancy. During the beginning of each month oestrogen levels increase causing an egg (ova) to be released from a woman’s ovaries in preparation for fertilisation by sperm.
If the egg is not fertilised, it will deteriorate causing a surge of
progesterone that results in menstruation. Menstruation is the shedding
of the lining of the uterus out through the vagina.
At Moontides
we view menstruation as part of a woman’s natural hormonal cycle.
Hormonal imbalances that affect the menstrual cycle can be extremely
painful, emotionally draining, physically draining and inconvenient to
say the least.
Menstruation is not a disease and that’s why PMS,
fibroids, endometriosis, polycystic ovarian syndrome, amennorrhoea and
other hormonal imbalances of the menstrual cycle can often be managed
extremely well with natural therapies or a combination of natural and
conventional medicines.
When you have a consultation with a
Moontides Naturopathic Case Manager (NCM) you will be asked detailed
questions about your menstrual cycle, your diet, lifestyle, general
health condition and any medications you are taking. This information
will be taken into account by your NCM with your main symptoms
prioritised and treated first.
On your first visit, you will
receive a personal handbook which contains information regarding your
treatment strategy, diet or lifestyle advice and relevant information
about your specific condition.
You will be provided with a
menstrual chart to record your cycle. This chart can provide a huge
range of information for you and your NCM regarding the balance of your
hormonal cycle, your ovulation time and the cycle of symptoms such
bloating, constipation, fluid retention, breast tenderness, cramping
pain, headaches, cravings or emotional changes. The menstrual chart will
allow you and your NCM to observe any changes to the patterns of your
cycle.
Your NCM will ask you to complete a diet diary and provide
you with an analysis of any nutritional imbalances or foods that might
be aggravating your symptoms.
Support services
Moontides has a carefully chosen group of referral practitioners
providing support services at our premises. Where possible your NCM will
provide the referral practitioner with specific directives so your
treatments will be focused on exactly what you need.
The referral
practitioners will report back to your NCM for consideration in your
treatment strategy so there is always a cohesive approach to your care.
